AR Controller
Learning The Process
The Augmented Reality Controller project was my first experience learning and applying the design process. It began with thorough research and quickly moved into ideation, with a strong focus on sketching and developing sketch models. Early sketch modeling was crucial due to the project’s heavy emphasis on ergonomics, as the device is designed to be held in hand for extended periods.
The task was to create an innovative handheld device compatible with VR and AR systems. After initial sketching, I modeled the most promising designs using low-density foam and evaluated each for its strengths, drawbacks, and ergonomic performance across a variety of hand sizes. This hands-on testing played a key role in selecting the final shape.
The natural placement of fingers and hands informed the positioning of the device’s buttons to ensure intuitive usability. The result is a versatile, all-purpose controller designed not only for VR and AR but also for applications like controlling PowerPoint presentations and interacting with smart home or office devices. With customizable controls, the AR controller adapts seamlessly to a wide range of use cases, offering both comfort and functionality.
